Post Date:05/17/2023 11:33 AM

Join the Oceanside Public Library on Saturday, May 27 at 3:00 p.m. to welcome poetry scholar and author Ahmad Rashid Salim for a workshop and discussion, “Ruminating with Rūmī:  The Life and Philosophy of the Poet” in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms, located at 330 North Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside.

Ahmad Rashid Salim, Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University California at Berkeley, will introduce Rūmī to a new audience and re-introduce his work to those already familiar. Ahmad will demonstrate how to approach this mystical poetry through the lens of today’s world.  He will also speak to the art of recitation - especially important when studying Persian poetry. He will share recordings of both classic and contemporary Persian poetry and discuss how the life and philosophy of the poet is reflected in the work. This workshop and discussion is ideal for poets, musicians, readers and everyone interested in how poetry and ideas are translated through generations.

Support for this program is provided the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library. The Oceanside Public Library aims to empower the community by promoting literacy, information access, civic engagement, cultural inclusiveness and openness to new ideas.
