On Sunday, June 4, 2023, at approximately 12:13 am, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Mesa Drive. The crash occurred when a 2005 Nissan Altima, traveling eastbound on Mission Avenue, collided with the traffic signal pole on the southeast corner of the intersection for an unknown reason. Officers and paramedics arrived to find that the male driver, approximately 20 years of age, had sustained fatal injuries due to the collision.

The investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown if alcohol or speed was a factor in the collision. No other vehicles were involved, and the driver was the car’s sole occupant. The deceased’s name is withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
