With the support of Rep. Mike Levin, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation recently announced the award of $201,000 to the City of Oceanside towards a Feasibility Study to analyze options for expanding on, and/or developing new local sources of water supplies.
The planned Water Reuse, Recycling and Seawater Desalination Feasibility Study will include current estimates of recycled water demand, seasonal patterns, as well as comparative cost information for all alternatives.
Oceanside's project is one of 31 planning projects in the Western United States chosen by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to create new sources of water supply less vulnerable to drought and climate change. This funding is part of the Department of the Interior's WaterSMART Program, which focuses on collaborative efforts to plan and implement actions to increase water supply reliability, including investments to modernize infrastructure.
To date, the Bureau of Reclamation has invested $310 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for projects that advance water recycling and reuse.
