Single Vehicle Rollover DUI Fatality

Oceanside, CA – On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at approximately 11:08 pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a major injury collision on west bound SR-76 just east of Loretta Street A BMW sedan being driven by Dejhaun Jones, a 20-year-old Oceanside resident, lost control and rolled over. Jones suffered minor injuries. The passenger, a 22-year-old male Oceanside resident, was ejected and suffered major injuries to include head trauma. The passenger was transported to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center and succumbed to his injuries at 0318 hours. His identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The driver was evaluated and determined to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was taken into custody and booked into the Vista Detention Facility for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter and DUI related charges. The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation.
