Join the Oceanside Public Library and Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray for a new movie series: Media Circus. Once a month, we’ll screen a film that explores how celebrity, ego, and satire all contribute to the media landscape of yesterday and today. Professor Chaffin-Quiray, a Professor of Cinema Studies at Palomar Community College, will present each screening by exploring the artistic and sociological character of the films and will lead a discussion afterward. No registration is required.
The series will run on the first Monday of the month, January, February, and March 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Community Room at 330 N. Coast Highway in Oceanside.
The films and dates are as follows:
- Ace in the Hole on January 6 at 6:00 p.m.
- The King of Comedy on February 3 at 6:00 p.m.
- The Truman Show on March 3, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.
Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray teaches Cinema Studies at Palomar Community College and has written two books: Cine-Me (2012) and Under the Tent-Pole: A Primer on Movies: Blockbusters, Oscar Winners, Alternatives, and You (2014).
