The City of Oceanside is implementing a series of strategic initiatives to address homelessness.
Please join us for a City Council Workshop in Homeless Strategies on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers (300 N. Coast Highway). The Workshop will focus on an overview of current resources and evaluating what additional steps we can take to diminish homelessness in our community. In addition, several new initiatives are slated to begin:
Major Collaboration to Launch Along SR-78 / Buena Vista Creek to Resolve Encampments
Coinciding with the point-in-time count, Oceanside and Carlsbad are launching an Encampment Resolution Program along the State Route 78 corridor / Buena Vista Creek. This collaborative initiative, funded through a state grant, will address encampments along the nearly 4-mile shared border between our two cities. The program, targeting specific zones and running through June 2027, aims to serve over 200 individuals by providing:
- Immediate access to shelter and resources
- Individualized support services
- Comprehensive clean-up efforts
New Safe Parking Program to Begin
Further expanding immediate solutions, the City has partnered with Dreams for Change and the North County LGBTQ Resource Center to launch a Safe Parking Program at 1919 Apple Street. This program will provide:
- 30 secure overnight parking spaces for Oceanside residents living in their vehicles
- Access to ADA-compliant restrooms and well-lit safe facilities
- Professional onsite case management services
- Support for transitioning to permanent housing
- Operating hours will be from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily
This referral-based program represents another component of Oceanside's comprehensive strategy to promote and facilitate housing stability while providing immediate, practical assistance to those in need.
