The Oceanside Fire Department is kicking off spring with a comprehensive series of free emergency preparedness courses designed to help community members develop essential safety skills and disaster readiness.
The series begins with Oceanside S.A.F.E., a Spanish-language workshop on March 8, 2025, from 9 AM to noon at the John Landes Community Center. This interactive session features three learning stations where participants can practice hands-only CPR, learn to operate fire extinguishers, and attend emergency preparedness presentations. The flexible format allows attendees to choose their preferred stations, with two scheduling options for the emergency preparedness presentation: 9:15-10:15 AM or 10:30-11:30 AM.
Following this Spanish-language workshop, the Fire Department will offer two sessions of its comprehensive LISTOS Emergency Preparedness Course – first in English on March 15, then in Spanish on March 29. Both full-day sessions run from 9 AM to 4:30 PM at the Landes Community Center, and cover crucial topics including natural disaster response, family communication planning, utility management, first aid, and disaster psychology. Participants will receive certificates of completion for these intensive day-long courses.
Next is another Oceanside SAFE class, this time in English, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 9:00 AM to noon at Landes Community Center (2855 Cedar Road). The flexible format allows attendees to choose their preferred stations, with two scheduling options for the emergency preparedness presentation: 9:15-10:15 AM or 10:30-11:30 AM. "We've designed these courses to meet our community's diverse needs," notes Fire Chief David Parsons. "Whether someone can commit to a half-day or full-day session, whether they prefer English or Spanish instruction, we want to ensure everyone has access to this vital safety training."
The Oceanside S.A.F.E. workshops welcomes walk-ins, while the LISTOS courses require advance registration due to limited space. These sessions are free and held at the John Landes Community Center, located at 2855 Cedar Road in Oceanside.
