Summer Reading Kicks Off at the Library

Post Date:06/02/2025 2:49 PM

Oceanside Public Library invites children, teens, and adults to participate in Summer Reading 2025 by signing up online at oceansidelibrary.org. All ages earn prizes and are invited to attend fun, literacy-based events from June 1 through August 2, 2025. This year’s theme is “Level Up at your Library,” with a focus on learning through games and play. The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library sponsor Summer Reading for all ages.

Kids, ages 0-12, earn prizes for reading and can also complete engaging activities. After reading, or being read to, 10 hours or 10 books, kids earn a prize bag, which includes a free book, museum and food coupons, and craft kits. Kids and families can enjoy storytimes, book clubs, and attend other entertaining and educational events, such as, for ages 0-5 and their caregivers, the Creature Features Workshop with the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum on Monday, June 23 at 9 a.m. at the John Landes Community Center Library, 2855 Cedar Road, and Little Learners Music Class with Nightingale Music Studio on Tuesday, June 24 at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway.

Teens, ages 13-17, earn a prize bag full of goodies and a free book for reading 5 hours. Library events for teens include a variety of book clubs, games, and art activities. Teens can get creative by attending Games and Grub on Tuesdays at the Civic Center Library 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. or Thursdays at the John Landes Community Center 12 to 1 p.m., as well as Big Blanket at the Library Cozy Games on Monday, June 16 at Joe Balderrama Park, 709 San Diego Street, at 12 p.m. or on Tuesday, July 1 at 11 a.m. at the Civic Center Library. Teens, ages 14 to 17, who are looking for something to do and wanting to give back to their community, can sign up to volunteer at the Library this summer.

Adults participate in Summer Reading too!  Adults can read books and complete related activities to receive a free book and a playing deck of cards. Adults can also participate in monthly book clubs and other special events. Library events for Adults include Wind-Up Vinyl Hour the 2nd Monday of the month throughout the summer, starting Monday, June 9 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Courtyard, and Puzzlepalooza on Friday, June 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Community Room and Courtyard.

The Library is also pleased to offer the free Lunch at the Library program this summer at the Civic Center Library, 330 N Coast Highway, John Landes Community Center Library, 2855 Cedar Road, and Joe Balderrama Park, 709 San Diego Street, for all kids ages 0-18.  Lunch at the Library starts June 16, and will be offered from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Civic Center Library and 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the John Landes Community Center Library and at Joe Balderrama Park.  In addition to free meals, enrichment activities for kids will be provided.
