On July 2, 2025, federal immigration agents requested Oceanside Police assistance to maintain public safety during their enforcement operation on Las Vegas Drive. Two OPD officers and a supervisor responded to monitor for public safety and did not assist with any immigration enforcement.
OPD's role was limited to public safety. We responded to a request to help maintain order during a federal law enforcement operation, as we would for any situation requiring crowd control or safety monitoring. We want to be clear about our legal obligations: California state law, including the California Values Act (SB 54), prohibits local law enforcement from using resources for immigration enforcement. OPD follows all applicable state and federal laws.
Our mission remains unchanged: We serve and protect all Oceanside residents while respecting the authority of federal agencies to enforce federal law. The Oceanside Police Department stands with our entire community and will continue to uphold the trust you place in us. We are committed to transparency, public safety, and serving our community as a whole.
