The Road I Call Home Exhibition and Event Series

Post Date:01/12/2026 2:58 PM

The Oceanside Public Library is thrilled to present a very special event series featuring the art exhibit The Road I Call Home by Randy Bacon. The Road I Call Home exhibit documents the stories of 32 people experiencing homelessness –men, women, and children–to build empathy and compassion for the unhoused community. The photographic portraits, from the lens of award-winning photographer and humanitarian Randy Bacon, reveal the beauty, dignity, and identity of each person. The exhibit opens on January 29, 2026, at the Civic Center Library and will be on view through March 13.

All are invited to a thoughtful Art Reception and Film Screening exploring the exhibit, with a discussion featuring Jordan Verdin of Humanity Showers on January 31 at 5:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library, located at 330 N Coast Hwy.

Additional events include First Tuesday Page Turners Book Club featuring the title When We Walk By by Kevin F. Adler and Donald W. Burnes on February 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mission Branch Library, located at 3861-B Mission Ave.

On February 23, co-author Kevin F. Adler will join us virtually for a Book Discussion and Q&A to discuss When We Walk By. Sheena McKinlay, Chief Impact Officer at Miracle Messages, will join us in-person to moderate the discussion. This discussion will be held at the Civic Center Library at 6:00 p.m. Free copies of When We Walk By will be available at the Art Reception on January 31, and at the Civic Center Library 2nd floor reference desk while supplies last.

The final event in the series will be a Recycled Art Workshop on March 2 at 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library. All ages are invited to create a piece of art out of recycled materials around the theme of "what does home mean to you."

The Road I Call Home is a project by Randy Bacon, the founder and creative behind the nonprofit 8 Billion Ones. This installation is sponsored by Exhibit Envoy, a nonprofit whose mission is to provide institutions with diverse and meaningful traveling exhibitions to strengthen their communities. The programs offered as part of this exhibit are sponsored by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library.
