OCEANSIDE, CA — On Friday, April 10, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers with the Oceanside Police Department responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Douglas Drive north of Rainier Way.
Preliminary investigation revealed a Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Douglas Drive in the number one lane with a green traffic signal when it struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway eastbound, north of the intersection, and outside of a marked crosswalk.
Responding officers located the pedestrian unconscious and suffering from severe head trauma. Officers immediately began life-saving measures, including CPR; however, the 57-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda Civic, identified as a 28-year-old male and Oceanside resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Based on the preliminary investigation, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision. The driver was evaluated and released pending further investigation.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and has assumed the investigation.
